A perspective observational study on Nutritional Status of Oncosurgery Patients

Abstract

Present study was initiated to study nutritional status of 30 patients between the age of 35- 65 years from Department of Oncosurgery at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Hospital, Jaipur. The incidence rate was found higher in patients above 40 years of age. Men were affected more than women and were less likely to survive. Most of the patients showed clinical sign and symptoms of weakness, fatigue, nausea, anorexia, weigh loss, anemia and wasting. Some patients experienced symptoms of oral ulcer, mucositis, xerostomia, chronic cough and blood in sputum and vomiting. Problem of weight loss was associated with poor diet compliance. It was also related to the symptoms of anemia, wasting and weakness as many patients were not able to have proper diet due to poor physical condition as well as ignorance regarding right food choices.
