Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a rapidly growing public health concern nowadays. Its magnitude is growing globally making it a major community health issue in the present era. With this view in mind, present research work was planned to study nutritional status of chronic kidney disease patients who were not on dialysis. It was observed that the majority of the patients were males. Thirty five percent of the patients were either malnourished or at risk of malnutrition. This is closely associated with the clinical signs and symptoms of ane- mia, fatigue and loss of appetite and poor nutrient intake in these patients although 64% males and 50% female patients were normally nourished as their calorie intake was near normal. There is a strong need for dietary counseling of the patients suffering from chronic diseases.
