Abstract: Cucumis callosus (Rottl.) Cogn., a minor cucurbit is an underutilized crop of semi-arid regions of Haryana. It is known by various names like Cucumic callosus, Small bitter melon, Snap melon etc. and used by the local population as a vegetable. Its fruits are consumed as a raw salad, pickle, or cooked as a vegetable. It is also reported to have anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic, and antioxidant properties. In the present study, the nutritional evaluation of Cucumic callosus was carried out. The proximate composition, mineral content, and anti-nutritional factors were analyzed. The results indicated that Cucumic callosus is a good source of nutrients and can be promoted as a nutritionally valuable food crop in semi-arid regions. The findings suggest that this crop can contribute to food security and nutritional diversity in the regions where it is grown.
