Abstract

Obesity presents unique challenges in the nutritional management of patients suffering from viral fever. The dual burden of excess adiposity and acute infection can impair immune response, prolong recovery, and complicate metabolic regulation. This paper discusses evidence-based dietary strategies for managing an obese patient with viral fever, emphasizing the need to balance energy restriction with adequate nutrient intake to support immune function and recovery. Key considerations include ensuring sufficient hydration, maintaining optimal protein intake to prevent muscle catabolism and providing easily digestible, nutrient-dense foods rich in vitamins A, C, D, E, and zinc to enhance immune resilience. Caloric intake should be moderately reduced to account for decreased physical activity but not to the extent that it compromises healing. Additionally, monitoring electrolyte balance and blood glucose levels is crucial, as obesity and infection may both alter metabolic pathways. The nutritional management plan should be individualized, incorporating the patient's comorbidities, medication regimen, and appetite changes due to fever. Ultimately, a well-structured diet, coupled with appropriate medical management, can improve recovery outcomes, reduce inflammation, and support long-term weight and metabolic health in obese patients experiencing viral fever.
